Quá khứ đơn – Past Simple

QUÁ KHỨ ĐƠN – PAST SIMPLE

  1. Câu nói có – positive sentence : chúng ta thêm ‘ed’ vào động từ thường, nếu động từ bất quy tắc (đặc biệt) thì chuyển sang cột 2 (past simple)

S + Ved/V2.

She started working yesterday. (start + ed)

(Cô ta bắt đầu làm việc ngày hôm qua.)

We went shopping last weekend. (go chuyển thành went)

(Chúng tôi đi mua sắm cuối tuần rồi.)

  1. Negative sentence – câu nói không: chúng ta phải dùng trợ động từ ‘did’ rồi thêm ‘not’, sau đó chuyển động từ chính về lại nguyên mẫu

S + did not + V nguyên mẫu (simple verb = bare infinitive)

did not = didn’t

She did not start working yesterday. (start để nguyên)

            (Cô ta không bắt đầu làm việc ngày hôm qua.)

            We didn’t  go shopping last weekend. (go để nguyên)

            (chúng tôi không đi mua sắm cuối tuần rồi.)

  1. Câu hỏi – question: đưa trợ động từ ‘did’ ra trước chủ ngữ

Did + S + V nguyên mẫu?

Yes, S + did.

            No, S + didn’t.

Did she start working yesterday?

            ‘Yes, she did.’ Hoặc ‘No, she didn’t.’

Yes, she did = Yes, she started working yesterday.

            No, she didn’t = No, she didn’t start working yesterday.

Quá khứ đơn của động từ ‘be’

  1. Positive sentence – câu nói có: chuyển thành ‘was’ hoặc ‘were’
I was at home.
You were at home.
He was at home.
She was at home.
It was at home.
We were at home.
You were at home.
They were at home.

 

  1. Negative sentence – câu nói không: thêm ‘not’ sau ‘was’ hoặc ‘were’
I was not at home.
You were not at home.
He was not at home.
She was not at home.
It was not at home.
We were not at home.
You were not at home.
They were not at home.

was not = wasn’t

were not = weren’t

  1. Question– câu hỏi: đưa ‘was’ hoặc ‘were’ ra trước chủ ngữ
Was I at home? Yes, you were. Yes, you weren’t.
Were you at home? Yes, I was. No, I wasn’t.
Was he at home? Yes, he was. No, he wasn’t.
Was she at home? Yes, she was. No, she wasn’t.
Was it at home? Yes, it was. No, it wasn’t.
Were we at home? Yes, you were. No, you weren’t.
Were you at home? Yes, we were. No, we weren’t.
Were they at home? Yes, they were. No, they weren’t.

Yes, she was = Yes, she was at home.

No, she wasn’t = No, she wasn’t at home.

Chúng ta dùng thì quá đơn – past simple khi

  1. Muốn nói đến một hàng động hoặc sự việc đã được hoàn thành trong quá khứ mà không còn liên quan đến hiện tại, và thường có các trạng ngữ chỉ thời gian đi cùng:

Yesterday = hôm qua (kết thúc vào lúc 12 giờ đêm)

Last week (tuần rồi), last month (tháng trước), v.v…

Ago = cách đây: 2 days ago (cách đây 2 ngày)

Thời gian ở trong quá khứ : in 2000 (vào năm 2000)

I visited my parents last week.

            (Tôi đã thăm cha mẹ tôi tuần trước.)

            He met her two years ago.

            (Anh ta đã gặp cô ta cách đây 2 năm.)

            They didn’t graduate from high school in 2010.

            (Họ đâu có tốt nghiệp phổ thông vào năm 2010.)

            You studied well when you were young.

            (Bạn đã học giỏi khi bạn còn trẻ mà.)

‘You’ bây giờ không còn trẻ nữa.

Thỉnh thoảng chúng ta không dùng các trạng ngữ chỉ thời gian ở past simple, nếu cả người nói và người nghe đều biết họ đang nói về sự việc nào trong quá khứ, hoặc một sự việc trong quá khứ mà bây giờ không còn nữa

Was the party fun? (Buổi tiệc đó có vui không?)

            No, it was boring. (Không, nó chán ngắn.)

Cả người nói và nghe đều biết họ đang nói về buổi tiệc nào ở trong quá khứ.

I lived in this neighbourhood for 3 years.

            (Tôi đã sống trong khu phố này 3 năm.)

Trước đây tôi đã sống ở đây 3 năm, nhưng bây giờ tôi sống ở chỗ khác, không còn ở đây nữa.

I often went to the cinema. (Tôi đã thường đi xem phim.)

Thói quen ở trong quá khứ, nhưng bây giờ không còn nữa.

  1. Muốn kể nhiều hành động liên tiếp xảy ra trong quá khứ

She came home, unlocked the door, and went to bed.

(Cô ta về đến nhà, mở khóa cửa, và đi lên giường.)
