PREPOSITIONS OF PLACE – ACROSS, ABOVE, OVER, UNDER, BELOW

  1. Across and over

Across: từ bên này qua bên kia (băng qua, bắc ngang)

Over: từ bên này qua bên kia (băng qua ở trên)

He tried to sail across the Pacific.

(Anh ta đã cố giong thuyền băng Thái Bình Dương.)

They walked across the street.

(Họ đi bộ băng qua đường.)

The thief climbed over the wall.

(Tên trộm đã trèo qua tường.)

Go over the bridge to get to the village.

(Hãy đi qua cây cầu đó để đến ngôi làng.)

  1. Above and over

Above: nằm trên một thứ khác ( vị trí cao hơn)

Over:   phủ lên một thứ khác

The restaurant is above the beach.

(Nhà hàng nằm phía trên bãi biển – vị trí nhà hàng cao hơn bãi biển.)

The clock is above the picture.

(Cái đồng hồ nằm ở trên bức hình.)

Put the rug over the table.

(Hãy đặt tấm thảm phủ lên cái bàn.)

Read the sentences above.

(Hãy đọc các câu ở phía trên.)

  1. Under and below

Under # over : ở dưới và bị che phủ

Below # above : ở dưới (thấp hơn một thứ khác)

There is a chair under the rug.

(Có một cái ghế bên dưới tấm thảm. – ghế bị tấm thảm phủ lên.)

The cat is under the table.

(Con mèo ở dưới cái bàn. – con mèo bị cái bàn che phủ.)

The beach is below the restaurant.

(Bãi biển ở bên dưới nhà hàng. – vị trí bãi biển thấp hơn nhà hàng.)

The picture is below the clock.

(Bức hình ở bên dưới cái đồng hồ. )
