DEGREES OF CERTAINTY – PRESENT TIME
(mức độ chắc chắn – ở hiện tại)
- Khi chắc chắn 100% một điều gì là đúng dùng thì hiện tại
She is Mary. (100%)
(cô ta là Mary.)
- Khi chắc chắn 95% một điều gì là đúng, thì dùng must (có sự suy luận)
S + must + simple verb (nguyên mẫu)
She must be Mary. She is the only girl with fair hair.
(Cô ta chắc chắn là Mary rồi. Cô ấy là đứa con gái duy nhất có tóc vàng.)
He must be sick. He felt exhausted last night.
(Chắc là anh ta bệnh. Anh cảm thấy kiệt sức tối qua.)
- Khi chắc chắn dưới 50% một điều gì là đúng, dùng may/might/could (đoán)
S + may/might/could + simple verb
I don’t know where my brother is.
(Tôi không biết em trai tôi đang ở đâu.)
He may be at school.
(Anh ta có thể ở trường.)
He might be at the library.
(Anh ta có thể ở thư viện.)
He could be at his friend’s house.
